Origins
Barnes Bowling Club is one of the oldest bowling clubs in England. The green behind the Sun Inn on Barnes High Street has been in continuous use since the Eighteenth century , making it the last surviving pub bowling green in London.
Our Story
Club History
Three centuries of bowling in the heart of Barnes. The Sun Inn was first recorded on a map of Barnes in 1746, with the nearby land associated with the historical bowling green.

The Elizabethan Game
Unlike modern flat-green or crown-green bowls, Barnes plays by 18th-century Elizabethan rules. Each player uses just two woods rather than four, and the game is played on a naturally undulating green that rewards skill and local knowledge built up over many seasons.

The Club Today
Today the club remains a thriving part of the Barnes community, welcoming players of all abilities. The season runs from late April through to early October, with regular fixtures, annual competitions, and the much-loved International Day.
